Library Services for Suburban Walla Walla Residents in 2013

Plaza Library

The Rural Library District operates the Plaza Library in the Plaza Way Shopping Center in Walla Walla - this location is meant as an express location with over 7,000 items, six public use computers, and free wireless internet access.  The Plaza Library is open seven days a week as well.

The Plaza Library offers access to much more than the 7,000 items that are immediately available inside the library. You may also request any of the over 80,000 items in the total Rural Library District Branch collections, as well as over 45,000 additional items from the Walla Walla Community College Libraries.  A total of over 120,000 items are available to request through the WALNET Library Catalog.

A library card issued at the Plaza Library also offers access to the Washington Anytime Library - a collection of thousands of ebooks and downloadable audiobooks.  This is the same service that is offered at the Walla Walla Public Library.

Walla Walla Public Library

In 2012 representatives from the Walla Walla County Rural Library District and the city of Walla Walla met for six months to discuss cooperative or consolidated library services.  The group issued issued a statement on June 13, 2012 that library services were unable to be combined at this time.

In November 2012, the Walla Walla City Council lowered their non-resident library card fee from $135 to $68 per household.  This meant that anyone living outside of the city of Walla Walla could purchase service for $68 per year, per household.  In December 2012 the Walla Walla County Rural Library District Board of Trustees agreed to reimburse this fee to rural library district residents that purchased a library card from the Walla Walla Public Library in 2013.

To obtain a reimbursement, purchase a library card at the Walla Walla Public Library, and you will be provided with a receipt and paperwork to turn in at any Rural Library District service location to process your reimbursement.  Reimbursements will be made by check.

Future Library Services

The Rural Library District is in the process of a much needed expansion of library services throughout the library district.  This includes the creation of a Central Library and Administrative Center in the Walla Walla area.  This service location will provide administrative support to all branches of the library district - including ordering and processing materials, technology support, support services for all district staff, and house district administrative staff. A full service library will also be included in this location to serve rural library district residents in suburban Walla Walla.
